Huber, Maree Frisch
Born 12/15/1904, Died 5/9/2008

Maree Frisch Huber, a resident of the St. Francis Home, died on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the age of 103. 

She was born on December 15, 1904 in LaCrosse, WI, to Joseph J. and Mary E. (Kubal) Frisch.

On July 30, 1951 Maree married Joseph T. Huber in La Crosse, WI.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Maree moved to Fond du Lac in 1940 as a Kindergarten teacher.  In 1941 she was appointed Principal of Cleveland Public School and in 1950, the Principal of Jefferson Public School in Fond du Lac.  She was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for nine years and at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for five years. 

Mrs. Huber was formerly the President of the Round Table Lecture Club, Vice-President of American Association of University Women which gave a National Fellowship in her name in 1998.  She served on the Executive Board of Wisconsin Congress of Parents and Teachers in Madison for 4 years.

She was a former president of the original Fond du Lac County Day Care Board, former Executive Board member of the Fond du Lac County Health Council, and life member of both the National and Wisconsin Elementary School Principals Associations. 

Maree was also a member of the Library of Congress, the National Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association, the Northeastern Teachers Association, the Fond du Lac Elementary School Principals Association and a member of Marian College Presidents Club.

She was a member of the Oshkosh Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and served as a summer school instructor in the University of Wisconsin System for seven years. 

In 1994, NBC of Madison gave Maree the Golden Apple Award as Outstanding Wisconsin Educator and Innovative Teacher. 

She was a member of Holy Family Parish and was involved in several volunteer services in the city.  Her professional colleagues said of her, “give Maree an assignment and she will give you a performance.”

Her hobbies included gardening, reading, gourmet cooking, crafts and bird watching. 

Mrs. Huber is preceded in death in 1992 by Joseph her husband.

She is survived by a niece, Jeanne Underhill Funk of Helena, MT and a nephew, Jeffrey Underhill of Floyd, Virginia, both who treated her like their own mother.  She is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews from the Huber branch of the family who were also very special to her. 

Visitation:  Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at St Frances Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street Fond du Lac. 

Services:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.  The Rev. Joe Wolf will preside.  Entombment will be at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. 

Memorials in her name may be directed to the St. Francis Home Employee Appreciation Fund, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, WI  54935.
