Emmer, Robert J.
Born 12/23/1935, Died 11/26/2011

Robert J. Emmer, 75, of Fond du Lac passed away at his home on Saturday, November 26, 2011. He was born in Ashford WI on December 23, 1935, a son of Edward J. and Adela (Bingen) Emmer.

On July 11, 1959 he married Rosalie M. Zamzow at St. Mary's Church, Lomira, with the Rev. Robert Braun officiating.

Robert attended St. Martin's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1953. After High School he served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957.

He was employed with the American Breeders Services and with International Paper Company for ten years. Bob attended the University of Wisconsin – Fond du Lac for two years. He then attended the Indiana College of Mortuary Science and graduated from there in 1974. Following that he was employed with the Zacherl Funeral Home from 1974 to 1984. He then managed a funeral home at Mellen and Glidden WI from 1985 to 1992 when an illness of a rare blood disorder forced him into retirement.

While living in Fond du Lac he was softball manager of the Eagles Ball Team for five years and past president of the Evening Optimist Club in 1980. He was also a member of the Lions Club while living in Mellen WI.

Before and during his retirement, he was involved in Organic Gardening. He also was a big Packer and Badger fan. He enjoyed feeding the birds and would have many different kinds coming to his feeder: Hummers, Orioles, Finches and of course little Sparrows.

Robert is survived by Rosalie, his wife for 52 years; three daughters, Jone (Richard) Fay of Sarasota FL, Elisabeth “Betty” (Dean) Oslage of Merrill WI and Margaret “Peg” (Anthony) Soll of Fond du Lac; two sons, John (Sue Hiling) of Sheboygan and Paul of Fond du Lac; five grandchildren, Jake and Ben Soll, Stephanie Quick, Alexandria and Bailey Emmer, and many step grandchildren.

He is further survived by one brother, Edward Emmer of Lomira; three sisters, Kathleen (Don) Gunderson of Lomira, Rosalyn (Lloyd) Westerman of Kewaskum and Valeria (Jim) Becker of Campbellsport; brothers-in-law, Leo (Ruth) Zamzow of Princeton, Brian (Kathy) Zamzow of Tomahawk, George (Jill) Isken of Cedar Grove; sister-in-law, Janet (John) Birshbach of Eden; step-brother-in-law Merrill (Jean) Dohrman of Waupun; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Robert in death are his parents; grandson, Michael Emmer; brothers, Clarence (Gertrude) Emmer, Wilmer (Mae) Emmer, Roman (Florence) Emmer and their son James Emmer; sisters, Marion (Art) Theisen, Elizabeth Emmer; brother-in-law, Marvin Zehren; sisters-in-law, Lou Anna Zamzow Isken, Anona Moore Zamzow and Frances Emmer.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, on Tuesday November 29, 2011, from 10:00 AM until 1:45 PM.

Services: Funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 PM. Rev. George Isken, his brother-in-law, will officiate. Cremation will follow traditional services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in his name will be established.
