Obituary for Robert L. Petersen

Robert (Bob) L. Petersen, 69, of Fond du Lac, WI passed away on December 26, 2020.  He was born April 10, 1951 in Oak Park, Illinois.  Bob moved to Door County, WI with his parents shortly after graduating high school.  While working at the Baileys Harbor Yacht Club, he would meet his future wife, Terrill Kovacs.  Bob enjoyed his time in Door County, WI, spending much of it at the family cabin in North Bay.  In 1973, he married Terrill Kovacs in Fond du Lac, WI.  Bob was the President of House of International Travel in Fond du Lac, WI from 1973 until 2002.  He loved travelling the world and went on numerous trips including countless cruises and adventures in the Caribbean, Central America, Asia, and Europe.  Bob was also an avid boater during the summer months and a long-time member and former Director of the Fond du Lac Yacht Club.  Bob enjoyed spending his free time on the family boat, R-Pet, cruising up to Cal Harbor for a long weekend with his family.  Bob was always a car guy and he became an AMC collector after his sons Pat and Mike purchased an AMC Pacer in 1999.  Bob restored a 1964 Rambler Classic “Rose” and a 1965 Rambler Marlin that were his pride and joy.  He entered them in many car shows and won several awards for his restoration projects.

Bob graduated from Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, IL. and attended college at Upper Iowa University and University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.

He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Terrill (Kovacs), son R.J. Petersen and his wife Gaby (Gustafson), son Pat Petersen and his wife Christine (Cook), and son Mike Petersen and his wife Angie (Oestreich), his grandchildren: Liam Petersen, Kennedy Petersen, Olivia Dunham Petersen, Alex Petersen and Aaron Petersen, cousin Ann Crowe (Spooner) and her husband Larry, cousin Becky Spooner, loving dog Zoey and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his second-cousin Alice Spooner, father-in-law Joseph H. Kovacs, mother-in-law Eleanor Kovacs, his mother Helen Petersen and his father Raymond A. Petersen. 

There will be a private celebration of life in Bob’s memory later in 2021.
