Obituary for William "Bill" F. Stubbe, Jr.

William “Bill” F. Stubbe, 91, passed away on December 25, 2020 at The Woodlands in Fond du Lac.

He was born December 28, 1928 to William and Elsie (Sandow) Stubbe in the village of Taycheedah.

Bill served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. He married Stella Wagner on September 7, 1950 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter. Stella preceded him in death on September 21, 2003.

Bill retired from Mercury Marine in 1991 after 30 years of employment. He worked part time at Schreiners on behalf of Servicemaster until the age of 75.

Bill was a past president and charter member of the St. Peter’s Lions Club. He was proud of the volunteer work he did as an eye tissue transporter for the Eye Bank of WI.

Bill enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling, playing cards, bingo and jigsaw puzzles. He also loved bus tours and travel and made many new friends while traveling.

Bill always had a smile on his face and could talk to anyone. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by children Kathy (Jim) Halfman and Roger (Helen) Stubbe, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Bill is further survived by daughters-in-law Kathy Stubbe and Carla Stubbe and sisters-in-law Kay Stubbe and Lillian Kraus, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Stella, sons James Stubbe and Larry Stubbe, daughter Ellen Stubbe. He was also preceded in death by his and Stella’s brothers and sisters and their spouses.

SERVICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter, at 12:00 p.m. Due to the pandemic, masks will be required and social distancing encouraged. There will be no visitation prior to Mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family would appreciate memorials to the St. Peter Lions to be used for their many charitable causes.

Bill’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at The Woodlands and Agnesian Hospice for their kind and gentle care.
